Many people look for different trending cuts and varying hair styles, changing their hair style in much the same way as you change your clothes. Different day…different hairdo…different you!

Not sure what hair style to wear today? I have one…the off the shoulder bun!

A bun is a versatile hair style ranging from simply functional for household chores or bad hair days, to a dressy school look or a stunning, sophisticated hair style for a glammed up evening. No matter the event or your mood, there is a bun that works for any occasion.

Hair Fun Fact: Hair is a protein filament that grows from follicles found in the dermis, or skin. The human body is covered in follicles that produce thick terminal and fine vellus hair. The most common interest in hair is focused on hair growth, hair types and hair care. Attitudes toward hair differ depending on the person, their preference of  hair styles, hair removal, etc.

Hair refers to two distinct structures: the follicle, which is the part beneath the skin, which regrows hair after it has fallen out and regrows skin after a wound. The second is the hair shaft, which is the hard filamentous part that extends above the skin surface.  The hair shaft is divided into three zones: the cuticle, the cortex and the medulla.

The Most Popular Types of Buns:

  1. The Ballerina Bun
  2. The Braided Bun
  3. The Messy Bun
  4. The Regular Bun
  5. The Sock Bun
  6. The Topknot
  7. The Wispy Bun

Steps to Make the Regular Standard Bun:

  1. Brush your hair.
  2. Pull back your hair and use an elastic band to hold your hair tight and in place (like making a pony tail).
  3. Twist your hair.
  4. Wrap your hair into a circular shape around the base of the pony tail.
  5. Tuck any loose ends under the bun.
  6. Secure the bun with bobby pins, barrettes, etc.
  7. Leave a few thin, wispy strands of hair hanging down in front if preferred.
  8. Add flowers, a headband, etc. if you want decorations.
  9. Add hairspray to hold the bun.
  10. Spritz on hair gloss if preferred.

Summer hair fun: the cool, chic, beautiful bun!

Hair Fun Fact: Hair grows everywhere on the external human body except for the mucus membranes and glabrous skin, such as that found on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet and lips. Hair follows a specific growth cycle with three distinct and concurrent phases: anagen, catagen and telogen phase. Each phase has specific characteristics that determine the length of the hair. Al three phases occur simultaneously; one strand of hair may be in the anagen phase, while another hair strand is in the telogen phase.

The human body has different types of hair, including vellus hair and androgenic hair, each with its own type of cellular construction. The different construction is what gives hair its unique characteristics, serving specific purposes, mainly, warmth and protection.

As is the case with all fashion, fashion divas have found a way to make hair’s purpose be aesthetic, gorgeous and wild! Oh, you wild hair child!

Bun Fashion Tips:

  1. Take any loose hairs and run them through a curling iron for spirals, or a hair straightener for sleek, straight hair wisps.
  2. You can make a bun with wet or dry hair.
  3. Braided buns look amazing!
  4. Tighter buns look sensual and sophisticated.
  5. Loose buns look casual and youthful.

For a festive, fun, fabulous looking bun, add fresh flowers or a head wreath to your hair when you are done!

No matter your hair color or your hair type, hair rolled up in a bun feels breezy, summery and light!

Natural Hair Types:

  1. Straight
  2. Wavy
  3. Curly
  4. Kinky
  5. A mixture of the four hair types.

This hair typing system is the most widely used system to classify hair.
