A one piece swimsuit is usually a skin tight garment that covers a female’s torso, except the back or upper chest. Many one piece suits are cut stylish and provocative, covering the crucial body parts, yet exposing a semblance of the stomach, back and ribcage.

Swimsuit Fun Fact: Swimwear is described by a number of names, including swimsuit, bathing suit, swimming costume, swimming suit, swimmers, swimming togs, bathers, cossies and swimming trunks.

The most common type of one piece swimsuit is the maillot, or tank suit, which resembles a sleeveless leotard or body suit. There are variants of the one piece bathing suit, including halter neck styles and plunge front swimsuits. Another innovation in one piece swimsuits is the body skin, which resembles a unitard or wetsuit.

One Piece Swimsuit Fun Fact: The modern one piece swimsuit made its appearance in the mid-1900s, when the style was widely described as a maillot. Its widespread acceptance is attributed to Australian swimmer Annette Kellerman. Kellerman marketed these bathing suits and the style became known as “the Annette Kellerman.”

Swimsuit Fun Fact: Rayon was used in the 1920s in the manufacture of the tight fitting swimsuits, but its durability, especially when wet, proved problematic, with jersey and silk also sometimes being used. In the 1930s, new materials were being developed and used in swimwear, particularly latex and nylon, and swimsuits gradually began hugging the body.

During the 1920s and 1930s people began to shift from “taking in the water” to “taking in the sun,” and swimsuit designs shifted from functional considerations to incorporate more decorative features. By the 1930s, the necklines of women’s swimwear plunged at the back, sleeves disappeared and sides were cut away and tightened. With the development of new clothing materials, swimsuits began hugging the body, with shoulder straps that could be lowered for tanning.

Hollywood endorsed this new glamour with films such as Neptune’s Daughter, in which Esther Williams wore provocatively named costumes like ‘Double Entendre’ and ‘Honey Child’.

Create a stir when on the beach in a one piece swimsuit. Durable, attractive, comfortable and downright sensual to boot!

Most swimsuits in western culture leave the head, shoulders, arms and legs exposed. Women’s bathing suits generally cover at least the aereola and bottom half of the breasts, and many one piece suits have amazing cuts and styles as more material can be used to create an eye catching, alluring garment.

Bathing Suit Not So Fun Fact: Germs, bacteria and mold can grow very quickly on wet bathing suits. Medical professionals warn that wearing damp swimwear for long periods of time can cause a number of infections and rashes in children and adults.

Whether you go to the beach for a swim, a good time, a walk or a run, dress up in a fancy, sassy, classy one piece bathing suit and soak up the glorious sun!

One Piece Bathing Suit Fun Fact: Wartime production during World War II required vast amounts of cotton, silk, nylon, wool, leather and rubber. In 1942 the United States War Production Board issued regulation L-85, cutting the use of natural fibers in clothing, and mandating a 10% reduction in the amount of fabric in women’s beachwear. To comply with the regulations, swimsuit manufacturers produced two piece swimsuits with bare midriffs, and dispensed with the skirt panels and other superfluous material.  Enter the two piece swimsuit!

Even with the popularity of the two piece bathing suit, the one piece swimsuit has held her ground and often times is the most dynamic, beautiful, stunning swimsuit around!
