“Red lipstick is to beauty what the little black dress is to fashion. The difference is that when you walk into a room wearing a red lip, people notice you!” Francois Nars – Famed Makeup Artist.
Ah, how true. There is something about coloring your lips with red lipstick that makes people notice you, stop and stare, take a second look. If you ever doubt this, stand in front of a mirror and apply all other shades of lipstick (pinks, oranges, purples, bronzes) and although they’ll look great, when you swipe on a radical shade of red, your lips will literally pop and your face will stand out!
What’s the buzz? Tell me what’s a happening! Rocking red lipstick is the buzz – and the bomb!
The color red is a warm color that conjures up feelings of passion, heat, confidence, boldness and fire, to name a few. When worn on the lips, you not only light up the room, but you give off an aura of sexy and sensual. Powerful. Grrrr!
Whether you coat your lips in Racy Red, Raven Red, Rev Your Engine Red, Rule in Red, Knock ‘Em Dead Red, Roaring Red, Enough Said Red, when you say it in red, everyone listens. (and looks!).
In my novels, my female characters simply adore their glossy red lips. Same holds true for me in real life!
As I’ve said with fashion, whatever your heart desires works the best for you. However, when wearing red lipsticks, there are certain shades of red that simply glimmer with various skin tones. As you know, red lipsticks come in all shades of red: orange red, pink red, red red, burgundy, maroon, fire engine red.
If you want to wear a glamorous red lip, here are some fashion tips:
- Fair skin looks luscious with a bright red, red lip!
- A medium complexion looks lovely in deep reds or burgundy shades!
- Dark skin simply shines in orangish reds or deep reds!
The best way to get a great red lip that stops people in their tracks is to line the lips with a similar color lip liner. This will eliminate the lipstick (or gloss) from bleeding and add shape to your lips. Then, pick your favorite shade of red. Paint the lipstick inside of the lip liner and blend the two together (with your fingertip or Q-tip) for a finished, polished, luxurious look. I know some people prefer their lip liner a bit darker than the lipstick, and unblended, and that works too! Like the fashion rules say, whatever works for you is the right way!
